Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. How often should I clean my flooring and upholstery? Plan on cleaning your carpets every 6-18 months and upholstered furniture every 1-3 years. Interim maintenance on hardwood floors (often neglected) should be done every 2-4 years. Stone and tile (grout) needs thorough cleaning (and possibly resealed) every 18 months-3 years. Mohawk Industries requires carpet cleaning every 24 months to maintain their warranty.

2. What is the best cleaning system? Truck-mounted steam cleaning is the #1 technique for most interim and restoration maintenance applications. With superior soil and stain removal, this is the cleaning method prefered by some of the major carpet manufacters, including Shaw Industries. Just as important as the system utilized is the choice of the cleaning technician.

3. How long will it take for my carpets and upholstery to dry? Upholstery and wood floors will dry in a few hours. Drying time of area rugs and stone floors vary, responding best under fans or in sunlight. Allow 4-8 hours for carpets to dry when serviced by a truck-mounted system. Only the surface yarns will be damp after cleaning—the backing and padding are not affected. Upholstery will dry quicker; wool area rugs may take longer to dry.

4. How do you charge for your services? Pricing for carpet, rug, wood, stone & tile cleaning is by the square foot; upholstery cleaning is charged by the linear foot. Beware of bait-and-switch tactics used by some cleaning companies. The initial offer of low prices is often accompanied by lower quality work. 5. Do fabric protection and sealers work? Yes! We can apply Teflon to your carpets, rugs and upholstery to boost stain resistance and allow textiles to stay cleaner longer. Stone, tile and grout need to be sealed to extend their life and maintain a fresh appearance. Wood flooring also needs interim topcoats to avoid costlier, more involved restoration that usually requires heavy sanding.
